An access log is a complete list of all the files that were accessed by the visitors of a particular website. Any file that was requested in some way will be listed, so if you have just one webpage with 3 embedded pics, one video and one embedded text file, for instance, the access log will contain a total of six entries - one for each of the 6 files that were accessed when the website visitor opened the page. A log normally shows the file name and path, the date, as well as the visitor’s Operating System, worldwide web browser and IP address. Occasionally you can also find the referrer sites that sent the visitors to your site. The data which an access log file contains is in human-readable plain text format. It can be processed by special software on a laptop or computer and used to write reports on the performance of a site, independent of the web statistics which your hosting server may have generated.

Access Log Manager in Web Hosting

Our custom Hepsia CP has a section dedicated to various logs and the access logs are one of them. As you sign in to your web hosting account and go to this section, you will find a list of all the domains and subdomains that you have. All it takes to allow the generation of access logs is to press a button that'll be available next to each domain/subdomain. In case the option is active, you'll see a download link as well as the file size so far, so you'll be able to save the file to your laptop or computer and examine it or process it with some application. Enabling or disabling the logs becomes effective immediately, so if you don't require one, you can stop it with a mouse click from the exact same section of the Control Panel. You will still be able to access the already generated content by simply clicking on the Download link.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you host your sites inside a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you will have the option to trigger or disable the generation of access logs with no more than a few clicks inside your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. You will find this feature within the Access/Error Logs section, which you can access as soon as you sign in. All it takes for our system to start creating logs is one click on the On button which you will see there. The feature can be activated independently for any Internet site regardless of whether it uses a domain or a subdomain and you'll find the full list of all the hosts in that section. Any access log can be downloaded as a text file with just a click and you can then see it manually or use some software on your laptop or computer. The log generation could be deactivated by simply changing the On option to Off in the Logs section of your Control Panel.
